At the age of 12, Julie was cast as the very bratty Veruca Salt in the 1971 classic Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. It was her first role in a movie, and was shot in Germany where she celebrated her 13th birthday on set.

More roles followed in various television series in the UK (Angels, BBC One’s Poldark) as well as some prestigious roles in the theatre, (Titania, Midsummer Nights Dream, Phoebe, As You Like It) but none quite so memorable as the horrible Veruca, who seems to have become a bit of an icon! Julie retired from acting 10 years ago to re-train as a child psychotherapist. The irony of this is not lost on her!

She works for a cancer support charity in Surrey, UK and lives in Hampshire with her dog Hudson. She has two grown-up children. A daughter who is a doctor (getting married next year) and a son who has just graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  In the words of Noel Coward, “don’t put your daughter on the stage Mrs. Worthington,” which she is happy to say they listened to!
